HD Metal detector is a mobile application by TECH_BASE aimed at detecting the presence of metals (Ferromagnetic metals) in the nearby surroundings. Below are some of the uses of HD Metal Detector:
1. Detecting metals in the surroundings
2. Detecting buried ferrous materials (materials containing iron) such as iron pipes
3. Detecting electric cables inside walls
4. Used by Ghost hunters to pick up spikes in Electromagnetic radiations
5. It can be used as a security device to scan for presence of metallic objects like Guns,
Knives etc.
This app require Magnetic field sensor (magnetometer) in the phone installed on in other to work. The sensor is a hardware component that is usually integrated into most mobile device.
In a nutshell, HD Metal detector makes use of the sensor is to measure variations in the Earth’s magnetic field (magnetic field level in nature is around 49 µT.) The presence of ferrous metals or other materials containing electric and magnetic properties causes distortions in the field. This result in magnetic anomalies that are then picked up by the mobile application.
NOTE: sensor accuracy is dependent on the quality of the magnetic field sensor incorporated in the phone. More so, interference from electromagnetic sources can distort readings in the app leading to inaccurate metal detection. example includes:
* Magnet in the speaker of the mobile phone or in an external speaker in the surroundings
* Presence of electronics like laptops, electric lamps, batteries etc.
* Incoming and outgoing calls, mobile data usage, WiFi etc. These effects can be reduced
by putting the mobile device in flight mode while using the app
* Variations in the Earth's magnetic field due to solar wind and magnetic storms causes
anomalies in the Earth's magnetic field leading to false detection of metals.
